One of my favorite places

Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

The beach is one of my favorite places . I love the sound of the waves crashing against the beach. I love the smell of ocean. I love watching the sun rise over the ocean. I love looking out at the ocean, hoping to catch a glimpse of a dolphin or some other magnificent ocean creature. I love watching ships go out to sea.

Growing up, I had one week a year to soak in all of the beach goodness. Each summer, my family would make the two-day trek from the Midwest to the Jersey Shore. After those two excruciatingly long days we would arrive at the prized destination. I couldn’t wait to get on the beach and jump into the ocean. It was the best week of the year.

As I have matured, I still love the ocean but have a great respect for its awesomeness and power. Each summer we hear the tragic story of a life lost due to a rip tide. We hear of boats lost, never to be found. We watch the Weather Channel tracking the latest tropical storm gaining power over the ocean.

When I am at the beach, I really only experience a small part of it. I may go out chest deep in the ocean and usually stay within eye sight of our designated beach spot. I’ll go for a short walk on the beach but never the entire length of the beach.

As much as I love the beach, I love God even more. But I only experience a small part of who He is. He is so much bigger than what I see, or read, or understand. My limited human mind can only comprehend a small part of the infinite God. But I still love Him and want to learn more of Him and His ways.

What is something you experience a small part of that you know is bigger than you are?
